Uppsala

Sunday late afternoon we traveled to Uppsala which is a town north of Stockholm and is home of Uppsala University where the other half of my lab is. We were here Sunday night-Wednesday mid-morning.

Sunday night we arrived at dinner time and found a restaurant that was attached to a bar that John really wanted to eat at. (most places have both and English and Sweden menu outside the restaurant) Sunday's every place closes really early when getting a table we were told they were only serving the bar menu which was fine but John was disappointed because they offered some weird meat he wanted to try. Instead I ordered the ribs and John steak.

Monday I have nothing exciting to report because I was working all day but here are a few pictures from when John walked around to explore the city. They were in a church obviously but other than that I can not tell you anything more.

Then Monday dinner we were hoping to go to an authentic Swedish restaurant. People from my work suggested Lingon. Upon arriving we soon realized it was an outside restaurant.

For starters we ordered reindeer meat and asparagus mousse. Surprisingly both were really really good. The reindeer meat tasted like vension (which is something us PA people are use to so it wasn't much different). The mousse was actually surprising it's something that you usually expect for dessert but it was asparagus flavored with a breading crust. There was these crunchy things under the mousse that I had no idea what they were but oh wow were they sooo good.

For our entree's I had no choice but to order the Swedish meatballs. :) (side note- I asked one of my Swedish lab mates where to get authentic Swedish meatballs and she suggested this place or Ikea, ha!)
John ordered the lamb, which on the menu read roast beef lamb which I think was a little bit of a mishap in the English translation. :)

My meal was amazing! It came with those amazing pickled cucumbers (yes basically thin pickles) and cranberries. The cranberry meat combo was so good together, it was a sweet and tart combination. John owes me because he ate most of my pickles. (they were to good to share) BTW as John was sooo kindly proof reading this for me he said they thought they were community pickles, I call bull shit on this one!

Tuesday another work day for me and John visited a museum where one of the first autopsy theaters is. (yuck) In the center you see the table where the action happened and the round things was standing room stadium style, since there were no lights back in the day the ceiling was all glass to let in the sunlight while the cutting action took place.

After my work day John met me for a picnic with my work people (which I don't have pictures of) and then we headed back to the hostel to pack for our train to the the airport in the morning. When my part of the vacation officially beginnings!!!

Were off to Copenhagen!
