Cleaning out the fridge

We are leaving tomorrow at the butt crack of dawn to fly to Portland, OR for John's friends wedding. Although I am excited for a mini-vacation via a wedding I am not looking forward to getting up at 3am to catch my flight. Which also means I have to have everything ready to go before go to bed Tues night.

Tonight I had to find a dress for the wedding it's casual dress so guys don't have to wear suits but that doesn't mean to much of a change for the girls. I hate shopping so I was dreading the fact that I was probably going to have to try on dress after dress . And I was right! I must have tried on what seemed like the 15-20 dresses with no success. Then I decided to give Macy's one last sweep and I found these and they were 40% off! which made trying on all those dress kinda worth it. :)

I am leaning towards the blue one for the wedding (it's on the beach) and the black one for the girls night at a wine bistro.

For dinner I was cleaning out the fridge so it was a weird mix of things, guacamole with pita chips, cut up tomatoes and cucumbers and a "tart" with ham and caramelized onions. I did not make the tart it was a frozen special from Trader Joe's.

Now I'm off to clean the apt and catch up on laundry.

BBQ chicken pizza

John has his last hockey game with Timmy tonight and tomorrow we are headed up to NH so I decided to use up the leftovers to make pizza. I used the leftover naan and added some BBQ sauce to start.

Then a bunch of yummy toppings chicken, tomatoes, peppers and red onions.

Can't forget the cheese.

Then baked at 350 until cooked.

I ate 3/4 of the pizza and was going to save the last piece...

But then I remembered we won't be home so I ate it.

Tomorrow after work we are heading up to NH to visit with John's family then on Sat we have plans to go skiing! I have only been once when I was 10 or 12 and had a terrible experience. No one told me you were suppose to zig zag down the hill and instead I took the straight route. :) Haven't been since. So tomorrow I'm putting my big girl pants on, taking a ski lesson or 2 and give it a 2nd shot.

Salad and leftover pizza

I'm on my own for dinner tonight John has to work late, so instead of making something I just ate up the leftovers in the fridge. I had a slice and 1/4 of the left over pizza and a side salad.

I also had to do some baking this evening for work tomorrow, we started a new coffee break meeting every Friday at work. Everyone takes a turn bringing in a breakfast/dessert item each week, it's a time for our group to get together and discuss the going on's.  I had to stop at the store to pick up a few things for the raspberry crisps I was making and I saw these most delicious things on sale.

Going to the store hungry and it being that time of the month is not a good combination, I couldn't reist and bought 4 mini cheesecakes. (mango, keylime, vanilla and raspberry) They hit the spot, I didn't eat them all my self in case you are wondering I did wait until John came home. The raspberry and keylime were my favorite. I was super excited for the mango but it was a complete let down it had no flavor.

The rest of the evening I'm curling up with my new book on the couch.

Night!

Jalapeno chicken pizza

I haven't made a pizza for a while and the last few times I have seemed to screw up making the dough in the bread maker.
  • 1st time-I didn't push the bucket all the way down and didn't discover it until half way through so none of it was mixed it ended up a huge flour pile
  • 2nd time-I didn't add enough water so it was crumbly
  • 3rd time- I stopped the cycle half way through I don't know why I'm sure there was a good reason at the time. It might have been to avoid the 2nd attempt. So after stopping it I couldn't get it to resume the cycle and it again ended up a crumbly mess.
I'm going for 4th time a charm
Tonight I decided to tackle it once again. I decided on a jalapeno chicken pizza, something spicy for John. For the sauce I mixed together in a chopper the following:
    1/2 cup clinatro
    1 clove garlic
3-4 small tomatoes ( I might have ate some while cutting them up)
    1T of tomato paste

The sauce was pretty good and flavorful I was excited that this might actually turn out! I rolled out the dough and added the sauce.

    a little cheese

toppings of chicken and jalapenos on one side for John, red peppers on the other for me.

then in the over at 425 for 20 mins

should have put those toppings on under the cheese opps! there's always next time...

2 small pieces for me (they really do look bigger in the picture)

    2 for John

    and side salads

    Fits like a glove!

Tonight we drove up to NH to get my ring re-sized, John purchased my ring from his mom's cousin Valerie's jewelry store. She was so nice and offered to re-size while we wait, I was so excited I thought we would have to leave it there for a few days. So while we waited John and I walked across the street and grab a drink and appetizer.  The bar was really nice inside there was these really cool dispensers set up.

I had a glass of red wine that John ordered for me while I ran to the restroom.

When I came back from the restroom John said the wine came from a good winery so I was excited to give it a try! We were both starving so we decided to order the sweet and sour calamari, which also came highly recommended by Valerie.

It was amazing! It came with shredded zucchini, carrots and sesame seeds on top. I think I ate more of it then John I couldn't stop. After an hour passed Valerie gave us a call to pick up the ring, when we went to pay the bill my glass of wine was $25!?!?! We asked the waitress if that was the price for the glass and she said it was. John what did you order!!! Good thing I only had 1 glass.

The exciting news now my ring fits like a glove! Thanks Valerie!!

On the way home Cart texted us and asked if we wanted to meet for a drink. Since it was a long week for both of us we decided a drink sounded like a good idea. Back in Boston we headed to Tory Row in Harvard square for a drink, since we only had a appetizer earlier I decided to order a small flat bread. It had sweet potatoes, broccoli rabe and goat cheese. It wasn't the best flatbread it really had no flavor and needed a sauce it was on the dry side.

    Happy Friday!

    Barbeque chicken pizza

I do love pizza, but I have a hard time ordering it anymore when I can make one at home from scratch. I had a hankering for pizza this afternoon so I decided to make one for dinner. On the way home from work I stopped at whole foods to pick up a few things for the week along with a roasted half chicken and pizza dough and a few other things I didn't need. (Never go grocery shopping when your hungry) Once home I immediately started assembling  I rolled out the pizza dough and spread some spicy barbeque sauce over top.

Next I cut up some veggies, blue cheese and the chicken for toppings

    Loaded up the pizza

Then cooked at 400 for about 20 mins. If you noticed there was no tomaotes before I put it in the oven I forgot to add them so I added them while the pizza was in the oven.

    Enjoy!

I'll be eating the leftovers for lunch tomorrow!

    Regina Pizzeria

Both John and I were not feeling up to par today so we kind of lounged around the house relaxing. When dinner rolled around I wasn't feeling up for cooking so John suggested we eat at Boston market which I have never been to but when we went in they were all out of turkey. John wasn't to happy (he kept muttering why would they run out of turkey when that's there main menu item). So we got back in the car and headed over to Station Landing's which is an apartment complex that also is a little community. They have Starbucks, dry cleaners, Boston sports clubs and various restaurants. We were going to eat at Not Your Average Joe's but then we saw Regina Pizzeria and decided to give it a try since neither of us has been there. The inside was your typical pizza chain, it reminded me of an uno's.

For dinner we ordered an order of cheese Tuscan garlic bread and a Mediterranean pizza, which consisted of red sauce, green and black olives, roasted red peppers, feta, caramelized onions and capers . We were both full after eating the garlic bread we ended up having a lot of pizza to bring home. Looks like I'll be eating pizza for lunch. :)

    Groupon coupon

I had bought a groupon for Stone Hearth Pizza a while back I paid $15 and you get $30 dollars worth of food. I didn't have anything to cook for dinner so I suggested to John we use the groupon. We have ordered pizza from them before and really like it, they use all fresh and local ingredients. They have 4 locations in the Boston area, but we decided to go to the one in Porter square since it was the closest. Walking in the dining area was small but the inside decor was very organic looking.
We sat at table near the front, looking at the menu we had a hard time deciding what to order since we had $30 to use. That's a lot of food at a pizza place and you have to use all $30 in one visit.

We started with tomato basil soup, this was probably one of the best tomato soups I've had. It came with a chunky piece of bread that paired really well with the soup.

We also ordered olives stuffed with sun dried tomatoes and then baked in a cheesy dough. They were served with a spicy tomato sauce, they were different tasting but good. A mix between the salty from the olives and tomatoes with the sweetness of the breading.

For the entrees we ordered a pizza half buffalo chicken and half spicy banana peppers along with baked meatball lovers pasta. Both entrees were good, I ate most of the pasta dish and John ate more of the pizza.

    Tomorrow is Friday!!!
