NYC

This past weekend John and I visited NYC we had tickets to see The Book of Mormon and stayed with John's friend Brad. The weekend was filled with a ton of food, fun and friends!

Friday
We arrived late (according to my terms but not NYC terms) and we didn't get a chance to eat so we headed out to a restaurant in Brad's neighborhood. We started with some appetizers to share

And then each ordered a meal

beet pasta for me

Lamb for John

Steak for Brad
After dinner we went to another small bar for some drinks, Where I might have had 1 to many....

Saturday
We were late risers (due to the comment above) so we showered dressed and headed to Time Square to see the play. Unfortunately, we were not able to take photos of the play since it was copy-written but I did get some of the venue. The play was amazing! I laughed so hard I was crying most of the it I highly recommend going to see it.

While we were laughing our ass off watching the play apparently there was a crazy man was running around with a knife in Time Square, the cops had to take him down. Let's just say it did not end well for him. :( Glad I was safe inside!

After the play we met back up with Brad for dinner at a Japanese barbque place. I have never been to one before but holy amazingness.

I was even brave and tried beef tongue!
Out of all organ meat I have to say tongue is one I am willing to man up and try simply for the fact that it doesn't do anything gross like carry waste or clean your blood of toxins (i.e. liver and intestines). Although from a cow they do regurgitate their food back in their mouths to continue chewing it...
Ok moving on

Sunday
Saturday during dinner Brad came up with the idea of sampling different foods in his neighborhood. It was like a food scavenger hunt!!! Why don't we do these more often!?!?!
(Oh wait I forgot about the 10lbs I gained doing this and the food baby I carried around all day)

Here is a sampling of what we scavenged.

True New York style pizza, the best pork dumplings ever, sesame duck pancake (another brave moment considering I am not sure what part of the duck this meat came from), and finally a Ruben.

Everything was delicious but my favorite was the Ruben, I mean you can't beat a sandwich with pickles!
I spent the whole bus ride home in a food coma and I didn't even start to get  hungry until 9pm!

Chicago 17 hour drive

Our friend Timmy recently accepted a job at DePaul University in Chicago and I offered to make the 17 hour drive with him and Sam (his cat). Oh what a drive the first half of the trip went fine the 2nd half we ran into construction and sleepiness started to set in. We left Boston at 3pm and arrived at his new apartment at 7am, driving straight through! (minus pee and food breaks)

beginning of drive

in his new apt
The first 2 days I don't have any pictures of it was spent unpacking, trips to Ikea, and waiting for movers. Friday however we decided to take a break and have a fun filled day of Chicago tourism. Starting with the aquarium.

pardon me I have a little leftover breakfast on my lip

After the aquarium we headed to one of Timmy's favorite restaurants an Asian fusion type of place.

Pictures a little blurry but it was a rice bowl with Korean steak, veggies and some amazing sauce.
After lunch we walked around the city a little more exploring their "Newbury street" and Millenium park.

They had these creepy fountain things that had faces on them that interacted with each other and then spit water out.

After walking around we were exhausted and headed back to the apt to make pork and chicken adbo for dinner.

Then we headed to the local Boston bar to watch the Red Sox lose to the Yankees Boo. :(

Wedding recap

Wow what a busy 2 weeks of travel! I am finally home and trying to get back to daily grind. The rest of our time in Gearheart was great! We attended a beautiful wedding, got to spend some time with friends and enjoy great food!

Thursday the bridal party had separate girls and guys days planned. The girls had a bridal party/bachelorette party where we decorated silverware, the bride played a guess who brought which underwear game and enjoyed a great dinner.
Friday was spent hanging out at the condos/beach with friends. Saturday morning we all decided to head to the Goonies house which was about a 15-20 min drive.

The house was a bit disappointing, just a house with a donations box out front and nothing much more. :(
But what was lovely was a brewery on a pier that was just a 2 min drive away!

They even had a separate menu for our furry friends.

We all started with a round of tasters and shared some appetizers.

We ordered lunch a little while later, John and I split a steak sandwich (forgot to take a photo). Then it was time to head to the wedding!! The ceremony was held on the beach while the reception was in a small barn about a 10 min walk away.

The Boston crew!

The groom

Every thing was beautiful, the wedding went off with out a hitch! The food was great, the entertainment was amazing. They even wrote a song just for the bride and groom and had it framed!

I wish them all the happiness in the world!! Congrats Dave and Kristen!!
