Bretton woods

John decided that we would go to Bretton woods skiing since
a) it was only about 1.2 hr drive from his parents house
b) they have good beginner slopes for me to try
c) they had good rates on rentals and classes

My first lesson was at 10am so we were up and out of the house by 8, to my surprise it was snowing when we left. I guess that's good since we are going skiing.

When we got there I checked in and was given ski boots and a pair of skis, I was given a pair of really short ones for beginners. I think they were the same size as some the the kids I saw skiing.I got everything on and headed to my class, there was only 4 of us.

Early on it became apparent that I was not getting the whole skiing thing so they had another instructor (Ken) come out to help me. Ken asked me to ski down the hill towards him in a pizza formation. When he saw how terrible I was he then proceeded to take me over into the kiddie area when I learned how to ride on the "magic carpet" which is where I think all the slow kids go. And by slow I mean 3 and 4 yr olds and me (30 yr old) yup, I was the tallest in my class.

After about 2 hrs I was finally getting a hang of it and they decided I was ready for the big kids hill. So they took me over to the ski lift and up we went. This brought on a whole new set of fears because how in the world was I going to get down from the lift, it was bad enough I couldn't even stand still on the ski's! I was terrified when I saw the end of the lift was coming near. I started scooting my butt towards the end of the chair getting ready to hop off when the instructor grabbed me and said whoa! you don't want to do a face plant just let the chair push you up. So I moved my butt back down the seat but for the life of me couldn't manage to "just let the chair push me up" Ken had to pull me up out of the chair.

So now I am standing at the top of this hill looking down wishing I was back  in the kiddie area with the magic carpet. Ken turned to me and said ok now just follow me down the hill. Easier said then done Ken. But somehow I manged to make it all the way to the bottom with out falling! It did take me a while and I did use the pizza formation the whole way down to avoid going any faster then 2 mph but I made it!

After my lesson John came and found me and we took a break for lunch then back out to the kiddie hill we went. He was sweet enough to stay on the kiddie hill with me the whole afternoon. At least he got some good entertainment out of it. He also got a few good photos of me coming down the hill.  .

If it looks like I was moving very slow it's because I was, very slow. After a while we split up and John made a few runs down the bigger slopes while I stuck to the little one. Here are some views from the top.

Around 3 we (mostly I) decided to call it a day I was sore from falling and my feet were not use to being in those boots! I'd definitely do it again, and I definitely need a couple more lessons I liked the lesson in the morning and practice in the afternoon. One the way home since it was such a strenuous day I needed a little pick me up.

A shamrock shake from McDonald's! It was all things yummy and delicious. Now I am headed home to eat some Thai take out and drink a glass of wine!
