CSA- Boston organics

John and I are embarking on a new food adventure. For a while now I have been wanting to try a CSA (community supported agriculture) for a few reasons
  • I thought it would be a good way to try new foods
  • It would force me to eat more veggies. Because let's face it when I'm at the grocery store faced with the weekly decision of asparagus or broccoli asparagus is going to win hands down every time (I hate broccoli) but asparagus does make my pee smell (this is genetic you  know! the pee thing)
  • And of course it is always a good way of supporting local and organic farmers
So this year I started doing research who knew there were so many choices!
  • what percentage of fruit vs veggies do you want
  • bi-weekly or weekly
  • delivered or pick up
  • pre-made basket or pick what you get or pick it yourself
  • and of course there is the cheese, meat and bread add on's (cheese sent to my apt every week, yes please!)
So after doing all the research I thought I'd narrowed it down to 2 and sent them to John to look at. Last night he came home from work and while I was making dinner he did a little more searching (since he too will be forced to eat more veggies). During his research he came across Boston organics.

Looking over their website it sounded like a win win situation. Here's the deal:
  • you chose wether you want your basket delivered weekly or bi-weekly
  • you then choose the type of basket you want example: all fruit, 1/2 veggie and fruit, 3/4 veggie, 1/4 fruit ect.
  • they also have a no list which is a list you can click on to let them know which items you absolutely don't want in your basket ever
  • every Sunday you log on to their site and look what is coming in your basket that week if you like it you don't change a thing, if you don't you can choose right there to opt for them to swap it out for something else
  • they also have adds on for a few dollars you can get farm fresh organic eggs, bread, milk, coffee, and chocolate delivered in your basket
  • and the best part of it all they deliver right to your front door!
  • you can cancel at any time
I was sold and signed up for the bi-weekly small basket of 1/2 veggies and 1/2 fruit. My basket deliveries are on Fridays and my first delivery is next Friday the 9th. The cost $24 for each basket that's it $12/week! That's what I would be spending on fruits and veggies at the grocery store anyways and I get the added bonus of supporting organic/local farms and trying new foods.

John and I decided not to click anything on our "no" list and try everything. If we try something and decided we absolutely hate it then we'll add it to our no list. But this also means I'll have to be diligent at meal planing to make sure nothing goes to waste.

Here is there website in case you are interested in checking it out:

I'll be posting what I get in my basket of goodies every 2 weeks!
